Remembering Eddie Strege

Edward Albert Strege, formerly of Egg Harbor, died by suicide on March 17, 2014 after battling with mental illness. He was a loving father, husband, son, brother and a loyal friend. Strege has been described as “the light in the room.”

Turning a devastating loss into an opportunity to help others, Ed’s classmates, friends and coworkers created the Little Eddie Big Cup memorial golf tournament in 2014.

In 2015, the committee expanded their mission by creating the Mental Health Support Fund with the Door County Community Foundation. The fund’s purpose is to promote mental health awareness, support mental health education and provide mental healthcare for people in Door County.

To date, the Big Cup has raised over $130,000 for the Mental Health Support Fund and the Ed Strege Family Memorial Fund, set up by the Big Cup committee to benefit Megan and Oliver Strege, Ed’s widow and young son.
